The Latest Trend In Beauty? Solids

As much as we love our favorite beauty products (and believe us, we do), we have one major gripe about them: Most of them are SO difficult to travel with. Anyone who has ever tried to pack the contents of their shower and medicine cabinet into a carry-on bag knows this to be true.

You get it: Things spill, caps break, and by the time you reach your final destination, your beloved shampoos and serums have mixed into some horrific soup at the bottom of your suitcase. It. Sucks.

So imagine our excitement at watching a new batch of beauty buys begin to hit shelves in solid form. Milk Makeup is the latest beauty brand to pick up this torch, but said fire was lit by the folks over at Lush. It's a fairly easy concept to grasp. Formulations that you typically find in liquid form are now being packaged as solids. Facial mists? Bingo. Serums? Done. These buys are pretty brilliant — and ridiculously easy to just toss in your purse without the worry of a spill.

Ahead, we've rounded up a few of our favorite new-to-market solid products. Perhaps one day we'll live in a world in which our products stay securely in their packaging. Until then, we have these mini-saviors.

With summer right around the corner, it's high time to stock your bag with a facial mist. But let's be real here — sometimes the cap unscrews, and you're left with soggy receipts disintegrating in a shallow pool at the bottom of your purse.

Luckily, Milk's Cooling Water stick is revolutionary. It's made with seawater and caffeine, and melts with a cooling sensation when you press it into your skin. The best part, though, is that you don't have to worry about leakage. Score.

Oil cleansers are dope, especially if you're a fan of double-cleansing. So when we saw that Julep's cult-favorite Love Your Bare Face Oil was now available in stick form, we were sold.

This tube works in two ways — you can either apply the stick directly to your face, or rub it on your konjac sponge or washcloth for a killer clean every time.

Serums aren't a part of everyone's skin-care routine — but they should be, since they're often the most effective formulations you can apply to your face.

If you're one of the people who rely on these ingredient-packed products, you may never even have considered a solid form. Well, allow us to introduce you to Full of Grace. Packed with chamomile and mushroom extracts, this bar melts into an oil when massaged between your palms, and soaks into skin just like the most viscous formulas on the market.

Lush Full of Grace Serum, $15.95, available at Lush.

Solid cleansing oils are especially clutch for travel: You can toss them in your bag without worrying that the TSA is going to toss your pricey product.

However, this solid cleansing oil from Erborian is great even when you aren't preparing for liftoff. It's enriched with seven Korean herbs, including green tea and licorice, so your skin gets good-for-it goodies while you scrub it squeaky-clean.

Erborian Solid Cleansing Oil, $39, available at Sephora.

Behold: a hydrating face oil you can apply without getting your hands greasy. Milk's stick is an easy-as-pie way to give your face a huge gulp of hydration without making a mess. Simply swipe it where you need it, and then press it into your skin. You can even apply it over makeup — its stick formulation makes it so your cosmetics don't slip as much as they would with a typical moisturizer.

Sure, solid perfumes aren't exactly new and groundbreaking. But they still make for the easiest way to apply your fragrance on-the-go. We especially love the Olsen twins' spicy and sexy scent.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Solid Perfume Compact, $48, available at Sephora.

The beauty of Lush's solid shampoo bar isn't in the fact that it smells like candy. It isn't even in the fact that it can last for up to 80 washes. (We'd like to see a regular shampoo bottle do that.) No, the thing that we adore about Honey I Washed My Hair is that it requires no packaging, making it decidedly eco-friendly. But if you are in need of something to help it travel, Lush has a bunch of reusable tins to align with the green-ness of this product.

Lush Honey I Washed My Hair, $9.95, available at Lush.
