If you peeked into my high school medicine cabinet, somewhere nestled between my Noxzema and Elizabeth Arden Sunflower perfume, you’d find a cucumber peel-off mask. I was obsessed with this gooey mask, though I’m not sure what it did aside from leaving pasty residue all over my face — seriously, it never peeled off in one sheet.
My devotion to face masks has remained steadfast through the years, but I’ve traded in that old cucumber dud for a collection of serious miracle workers. As a major proponent of instant gratification, these are the five masks that correct my skin problems quickly. Here is my tried and true list of fixer-uppers and why I love them so much.
The Problem: Uneven or rough texture
The Fix: Glam Glow is the face mask to perk up graying, sad skin. This winter I was traveling nonstop and my skin turned a shade of ashy gray. The Problem: Blackheads and congested pores
The Fix: For people who suffer from clogged pores, Mario Bedescu Silver Powder is a life changer. I mix the powder with a touch of water and dab it on my problem areas. It's a bit messy, but it's well worth it.

Problem: Dull, Lifeless Skin
The Fix: This all-in-one anti-aging mask truly does it all — evens out skin tone, softens fine lines, and reduces the appearance of pores — just to name a few. But we love it specifically for the way it smooths and brightens the skin. Made with jojoba oil and detoxifying carbon, this formula gives your face a much-needed boost and glow. And unlike most clay masks, this one doesn't dry out your skin. Use it on days you're especially stressed or your complexion is in desperate need of some TLC.

The Problem: Dry, irritated skin
The Fix: No 7 Heavenly Hydration mask can combat even the most persistent dry patches. If it can keep my skin feeling soft through a Swedish winter, it gets an A in my book. Not only does the creamy mask add moisture, it reduces redness and irritation, which makes it the perfect antidote for dry skin.
It's a thick cream, so let it sit on your skin for a few minutes before wiping it off with a drenched cotton pad. I'm taking this with me to Miami for a heavy-duty dose of after-sun moisture.

The Problem: Blemishes and breakouts
The Fix: Nothing can ruin your day like waking up to a whopping zit. My latest anti-acne obsession is Kate Somerville EradiKate Mask. It zaps pimples without over-drying my skin. This product calms my monthly breakouts, so I like to use it as a spot treatment rather than a full-face mask.

The Problem: Dark spots
The Fix: To say that I am obsessed with BeautiControl Radiance Masque is an understatement. Not only does the oxygen-rich cream help lighten dark spots, it’s super fun to use. Apply an even layer with a brush, then sit back and let the magic happen. The masque foams, changes colors, and washes off to reveal glowing results — I’m addicted.
